LAS VEGAS - Just weeks after giving away US$155,000 in a weight-loss contest among members of his entourage, Manny Pacquiao once again showed his generous side, all in good fun.

During Thursday morning’s roadworks at the Silverado High School in Las Vegas, Pacquiao gave away another $5,000 (P220,000) in prizes when he organized running contests for his closest aides.

Pacquiao reportedly dangled a $1,000 prize to the fastest runner in the 100-meter dash, which assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez ruled after beating businessman Abbas Ahmadi who settled for a $500 prize.

Watch a video of the race:

“Hinamon niya kami eh. Ngayon may iba na pinagtatawanan ako akala yata nila porket medyo mabigat timbang natin, di na tayo makakatakbo,” Fernandez, a former swimming competitor in the Palarong Pambansa, told

“Katuwaan lang naman 'yun. Gusto lang kasing i-encourage ni congressman lahat kami na maging conscious sa aming health. Isa na nga ako na mabigat na ang timbang,” he added.

Pacquiao also organized a 4x400-m relay  which the group of former Pinoy boxers Ernie Fontanilla, Bobby Pacquiao, Rodel Mayol and Jerry Balagbagan won over a quartet led by UFC heavyweight champion Cheick Kongo.

The winning group won $2,000 while the losing team went home with $1,500.

Aside from extravagant prizes he gives away to members of his entourage, Pacquiao has also been giving away free tickets, hotel accomodations, airfare and even money to his friends and even other hangers-on.

“Masaya siya dun eh. Hindi naman kasi madamot si boss. Gusto niya na i-share din sa iba ang kanyang mga swerte at kayamanan,” said Pacquiao’s longtime aide Caloy Homo.
