UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas center Karim Abdul has been issued a warning by the UAAP Commissioner’s Office on Monday for an unsportsmanlike foul in the Tigers’ game against Far Eastern University.
Abdul wasn’t called for a foul after apparently elbowing FEU center and fellow Cameroonian Christian Sentcheu in the third quarter of Sunday's match, but UAAP commissioner Chito Loyzaga said in a memorandum that the UST big man should have been slapped with "an unsportsmanlike foul with an intention to hurt."
The Tamaraws won the match 77-67.
The incident also led to a scuffle at the end of the game after Abdul was seen exchanging words with former FEU Tamaraw Pipo Noundou, Sentcheu’s cousin. Cooler heads prevailed and prevented the scuffle from escalating into a free-for-all.
Loyzaga added that another foul of a similar nature will lead to an automatic one-game suspension for Abdul.
It was also in the game that FEU star Terrence Romeo was issued same warning from the UAAP Commissioner’s Office foul for tripping UST guard Ed Daquioag.
Another unsportsmanlike from Romeo will merit a one-game suspension and will disqualify him from a possible MVP bid.
