ASIDE from dishing out better performances, the chances of Terrence Romeo getting the MVP award will also be determined by how well he behaves in the next games.

The UAAP Commissioner’s Office has issued a warning on the Far Eastern University star for an unsportsmanlike foul infraction with an “intention to hurt” he committed on Sunday in a game against University of Santo Tomas.

UAAP commissioner Chito Loyzaga gave out the warning to Romeo through a memorandum and stated that any future foul of similar nature will result in a one-game suspension.

Under league rules, a suspension will automatically disqualify a player from any individual award, including the MVP trophy.

Romeo was handed an unsportsmanlike foul on Sunday after UST guard Ed Daquioag tripped while playing defense against him during the third quarter.

Romeo has been a strong early candidate for the MVP race, leading the league in scoring with an average of 22 points after six games. He is also averaging 6.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.7 steals this season.

The fourth-year guard also took the ACCEL 3XVI UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Tamaraws to a sixth successive victory.

Romeo scored 19 points including 12 in the second half in FEU’s 77-67 victory over UST on Sunday. He also tallied 24 points including 6-of-10 from three-point range in the Tamaraws’ 87-83 win over National University last Wednesday.

After the UST game, Romeo said winning the individual trophy was not his priority entering the season.

“Sa simula, unang-una kong sinabi sa teammates ko, hindi na ako maghahangad ng award basta mag-champion tayo at mapakita natin ’yung improvement ng FEU. Masaya na ako,” said Romeo.

But when asked if Romeo will go for the MVP trophy now that he is an early favorite, he said: “Nandoon na eh.”
