AFTER just one season, Bal David has stepped down as the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers head coach, The Varsitarian announced on Twitter on Thursday night.
LOOK:
David won a single game for the Growling Tigers in a 1-13 campaign in UAAP Season 85 - his first as a head coach at the top level after a great playing career.
The official student publication of UST also bared that assistant coach Rodney Santos will remain in the coaching staff after David's departure.
The news come amid talk of a possible return by champion coach Pido Jarencio to Espana. The rumors only amplified after the former stepped down as coach of NorthPort in the PBA to give way to Bonnie Tan.
However, sources said a lot of things must fall into place before a Jarencio homecoming at UST can happen, beginning with a partnership agreement between UST officials and San Miguel Corp. bigwigs led by sports director Alfrancis Chua.

Negotiations between UST officials and SMC for such a deal, sources added, fell through before Season 85, after which the school announced the appointment of David as the replacement of Jinino Manansala.
David, 50, won one championship with UST in 1994 and had a stellar 10-year career in the PBA with Barangay Ginebra.
However, 'The Flash' came in during a difficult transition period for UST and both coach and team struggled in the process - their lone win of the campaign coming at the expense of the Adamson, 69-60, in the season opener.
