The incumbent Zamboanga Valientes head coach in the MPBL has already began his first week of training with the Blue Eagles, sources confirmed to SPIN.ph on Tuesday.

Alas is expected to bring his collegiate championship pedigree to the UAAP for the very first time, having won three NCAA men's basketball titles as head coach of the Letran Knights in 1998, 2003, and 2005.
For Alas' new side, Season 86 proved to be a challenging campaign for the Katipunan side after a 7-7 (win-loss) prelims record prior to relinquishing the title through a Final Four exit at the hands of University of the Philippines.
Familiar names return
Although the Alas patriarch will soon make his Ateneo coaching debut, their esteemed sporting clan is no stranger to the UAAP scene.
Louie's youngest son, Kieffer, has already made a strong impression in the juniors and world stages after being named to the 2023 Fiba Asia U16 All-Tournament Team, selected to the UAAP Season 86 juniors' Mythical Five, and recording a historic triple-double in the UAAP prelims.
