THE 2024 edition of the UCLAA (United Central Luzon Athletic Association) finally got off the ground on Thursday at the Don Honorio Ventura State University gymnasium.
Former PBA MVP and NLEX ambassador Asi Taulava graced the opening ceremony as special guest together with former Gilas Pilipinas stalwart and PBA player Larry Fonacier and NLEX point guard Dominick Fajardo.
Smart Sports Assistant Vice President Epok Quimpo also joined the event together with Bacolor, Pampanga Mayor Eduardo ‘Diman’ Datu, Don Honorio Ventura State University President Enrique Baking, and the PBA’s first ever Rookie of the Year and former national team player Gil Cortez, who is the UCLAA chairman.
Participating schools include Angeles University Foundation, Colegio De Sebastian, Holy Angel University, Lyceum of Subic Bay, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology, St. Nicolas College of Business and Technology, Systems Pius College Foundation, Tarlac Agricultural University, Tarlac State University, and Don Honorio Ventura State University.
Among the prominent product of the UCLAA include Fajardo from Bulacan State University, Michael Miranda of NLEX from St. Nicolas College, and TNT’s Ping Exciminiano, a former league MVP from Lyceum of Subic Bay.
Veteran TNT star Jayson Castro also spent his high school years at the Don Honorio Ventura State University, which hosted the PBA’s second bubble conference during the 2021 Philippine Cup.
Originally set last Oct. 24, the meet had to be moved two weeks later following the successive weather disturbances brought by tropical storm Kristine and typhoon Leon, respectively.
