Rain or Shine vs Anyang KGC Jones Cup recap
Rain or Shine failed to sustain its gains from its first win in the 42nd William Jones Cup, falling to Anyang KGC, 87-77, at the Taipei Heping Gymnasium.
The Elasto Painters fell behind early and couldn’t make a comeback as they bowed to the newly crowned Korean Basketball League champions where Gilas Pilipinas pool member Rhenz Abando plays.
The blowout loss came just 24 hours after Rain or Shine notched its first win in the tournament, a 98-90 double overtime decision against Iran.
The Elasto Painters dropped to 1-5 in the standings, while the Koreans raised their slate to 4-1.
Rajko Toroman’s role at CSB, Converge
Frank Lao, the top supporter of College of St. Benilde and Converge, assured the Rajko Toroman won’t disrupt the scheme of things at both teams.
Lao, the businessman behind the return of Toroman to the local basketball scene, made the assurance after the former Smart Gilas coach was named active consultant for the Blazers and the FiberXers.
Lao said Toroman will ably complement head coaches Charles Tiu at St. Benilde and Aldin Ayo at Converge, where Lao’s son, Jacob, is the team manager.
"Aldin is the Converge coach. He will call the shots and we expect him to continue doing a great job with the FiberXers," Frank Lao said.
Bo Perasol named UP sports director
Bo Perasol is embracing a bigger responsibility at University of the Philippines after being named the director of UP Office of Athletics and Sports Development.
Promoted from being the program director of the seniors’ basketball team, Perasol has mixed emotions as he handles over 700 student-athletes in Diliman and others UP campuses.
"Ang gusto nating mangyari is maging handa yung opisina to really cater to the needs of UP student-athletes. Mixed emotions, pero mostly excited din kasi ngayon, ang task ko is not just to oversee the basketball program, but all of UP programs," Perasol said.
