ANYANG KGC brought Rain or Shine back to earth after posting a wire-to-wire 87-77 victory in the 42nd William Jones Cup at the Taipei Heping Gymnasium Thursday night.
Rain or Shine vs Anyang KGC Jones Cup recap
The reigning Korean Basketball League champions didn’t let the Elasto Painters get into the groove, racing to an early 22-11 lead and never looked back.
The blowout came just 24 hours after Rain or Shine notched its first win in the tournament, 98-90, which it eked out in double overtime against Iran.
The Elasto Painters are now 1-5 in the standings, while the Koreans raised their slate to 4-1.
Former PBA import Du'Vaughn Maxwell and Ji Hoon Park led the way for the Korean side.
Park finished with a game-high 25 points, while Maxwell, who twice played for Phoenix in the Commissioner's Cup added 15 points and nine rebounds.
It was also the two who provided timely baskets for Anyang after Rain or Shine managed to cut a once imposing 20-point lead to just 63-73.
Guard Andre Caracut again showed the way for the Elasto Painters with 19 points, while naturalized player Ange Kouame finished with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Elasto Painters take a rest on Friday after seeing action for six straight day dating back to Saturday's opener.
They resume their campaign Saturday against Japan U-22 team and league-leader University of Irvine on the final day of the meet on Sunday.
