DASMARIÑAS CITY – Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao said he felt disrespected by Terrence Romeo’s garbage-time three-pointer in Game Three of the PBA 48th Season Philippine Cup semifinal series against San Miguel.
Guiao said he felt Romeo’s shot was unnecessary since the result of the game was already settled and that the conference is already in the semifinal stage where the quotient system is no longer in effect.
San Miguel won over Rain or Shine, 117-107, to grab a commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven semifinal series.

“Basic respect,” said Guiao told reporters about his beef with Romeo. “Alam ko naman na San Miguel is a class organization. Kaibigan natin ‘yung coaching staff nila, ‘yung boss doon. That’s just a minimum requirement for respect.”
“Wala naman tayong quotient sa semis eh. Hindi naman bagong player si Terrence. Alam niya ‘yun,” said Guiao.
Guiao said he was surprised by Romeo’s late shot considering that he expected more from a San Miguel team that is the top seed in the Philippine Cup playoffs.
“Nagulat din ako sa nangyari. Medyo bastusan ang labas. I think ‘yung the mere fact na they are seeded No. 1, they are the best team, they have the best record, they have the best talent, that in itself should make them a class organization.
"But to be a class organization is giving due respect doon sa mas mababa sayo. Pero hindi naman nangyari.”
Guiao said he felt confronting Romeo after the shot was merited.
“Nagalit din ako. I lost my temper. Pero deserving din sila, kung bastusan ang labanan, ayaw mo naman mambastos pero kapag binastos ka, hindi ka naman magpapa-bully. Siguro expression of disappointment,” said Guiao.
”Expect mo sa ganung situation na matatapos kayo na may respeto pa rin tayo sa isa’t isa,” said Guiao. “Maganda naman ‘yung laro. Wala namang nangyaring untoward. Wala namang situation na puwedeng sabihing magjujustify sa ganun.”
“May tao talagang bastos. Wala tayong magagawa. May taong mayabang, may taong bastos, wala tayong magagawa doon,” Guiao closed.
Romeo was no longer available for comment after the game.
