GOOD thing Rain or Shine came up with a 113-101 win over NLEX on Friday night, giving import Demetrius Treadwell the rare opportunity to see coach Yeng Guiao smile.
“He never smiles. This is the first time I’ve ever seen him smile,” said Treadwell as he laughed about it together with Guiao, who sat beside him during the post-game presser of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Philsports Arena.
“We have to win for me to smile,” Guiao snapped back.

Treadwell’s numbers of 23 points and 18 rebounds were among the reasons for those toothy smile from Guiao as it kept the Elasto Painters’ momemtum going as they climbed to 2-5 in a last-minute ditch to enter the playoffs.
The import described the veteran coach as a ‘straightforward’ person.
“He’s been honest with his assessment of me ever since I came here, and he’s been doing tips and and guidance on how to help the team, and that’s pretty much about it. I learn a lot in my two weeks here. (He’s) pretty serious."
Although Treadwell admitted he’s still adjusting to Guiao’s system, the coach actually likes what he’s seeing with the import.
Not that Treadwell’s predecessor DaJuan Summers was not good enough.
“Different style of play and different ways to make them effective,” Guiao said of the two imports.
Treadwell a perfect fit
But Treadwell seemed to be the perfect fit for the Elasto Painters as the result showed.
“I’m really happy, really satisfied with his defense, with his rebounding. He’s also a leader, he’s talking to his teammates, and he’s a good influence in the locker room. So we’re very lucky to have Tread with us,” added Guiao.
