PIDO Jarencio, the head coach of the University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP, is set to become a PBA team governor representing Terrafirma.

Jarencio, who turned 61 early this month, is inheriting the post vacated by Bobby Rosales, who stepped down as governor following the aborted sale not just once, but twice, of the Dyip franchise.

Also a former University of Santo Tomas star who played in the league from 1986 to 2001, Jarencio now becomes the second former player to be team governor this season after Jason Webb of Magnolia.

The retired guard previously held the position as team manager of Northport last season after serving as head coach the past few years.

Jarencio, whose 2-0 UAAP record includes wins over favorites La Salle and University of the Philippines, is the latest Northport personnel to come on board the Dyip since the Batang Pier franchise was put on sale and bought by Pureblends Corp.

His son Jaren is now part of the Terrafirma coaching staff under Ronald Tubid, while Jeff Napa acts out as lead deputy.

Both Napa and the young Jarencio served as assistant coaches for Jarencio and later, to Bonnie Tan at Northport.

The new PVL season will not open at its usual home turf at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

In fact, it won’t even be in Metro Manila altogether.

SPIN.ph has learned that the PVL will open its Reinforced Conference on Oct. 7 at the Ynares Center II in Montalban, Rizal.

It was back in July when the league last visited the now-six month old venue for its PVL on Tour preseason tournament.

The 8,000-seater venue will host the yet-to-be announced opening day slate of import-laden play set to run until late November or early December.

The compressed conference schedule comes in light of Alas Pilipinas’ preparations for the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand later this year.
