The PBA's season opener for its 51st year is being held a bit later to make way for the February/March window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers to be held in Cebu City.

The current season, the 50th, will end in December.
Gilas Pilipinas will play in the final window against Jordan on February 26, and Syria on March 1, results of which will determine whether the national squad will make it to the World Cup 2027 to be held in Doha, Qatar. - Reuben Terrado
New home for Cuntapay?
Damie Cuntapay was recently spotted in street clothes while watching Meralco's tune-up game against Rain or Shine as the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup prepares to resume after a long break due to the Asian Games which ended Sunday in Nagoya.
Cuntapay is now a free agent after being released by Titan Ultra, and a source said the former San Beda big man is trying out for a spot at Meralco.
Another player released by Titan Ultra was Jeo Ambohot, who quickly found a new home at TNT.
Cuntapay is eyeing a new beginning, hopefully with Meralco, after playing lean minutes for the Giant Risers where he averaged 2.4 points and 1.4 rebounds during the Governors’ Cup. - Reuben Terrado
