PHOENIX Super LPG's stunning loss to Macau on Wednesday in the PBA 50th Season Commissioner's Cup could be costly to their campaign.
From a possible place in the Top Four with a victory, the Fuelmasters could now go down all the way to the eighth spot at the end of the elimination round with another defeat. That loss to also-ran Macau, 105-98, could be so costly indeed.

Meanwhile, San Miguel beat Terrafirma, 126-110, to complete the quarterfinal cast. But that doesn't mean the Beermen can still finish at No. 8 at the end of the eliminations.
The results of Wednesday's games forged a four-way tie for fifth place among SMB, Phoenix, TNT and Magnolia heading to their Saturday clash at the Ynares Center-Antipolo.
Phoenix Super LPG 6-5
Magnolia 6-5
TNT 6-5
San Miguel 6-5
The Saturday game between Phoenix and San Miguel is now a pivotal one as it could determine which team will go down to the No. 8 seed in the quarterfinals.
The loser of the Phoenix vs. San Miguel clash could end up all alone at the eighth spot if Magnolia beats Meralco and TNT wins over Barangay Ginebra on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

If such results pan out, it is going to be top-seed NLEX which will be the opponent of the loser of the Phoenix-San Miguel game.
Wednesday's results didn't affect TNT's chances of dropping to No. 8. There is also a chance that Magnolia can slip to No. 8. But that's for another story.
