NLEX or San Miguel loom as the possible quarterfinal opponent of Barangay Ginebra in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup following Sunday’s win by the Gin Kings in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup.
The Gin Kings beat Phoenix Super LPG, 106-89, to move up to fourth place with a 4-5 win-loss record as the Fuelmasters slipped to third with a 5-4 slate in Group B behind leader Magnolia (6-3) and Rain or Shine (5-3).
The two teams have one more game left in the eliminations. Ginebra goes up against Blackwater on Wednesday while Phoenix Super LPG faces Rain or Shine on Friday.

On the assumption that Rain or Shine will secure the No. 2 seed in Group B, Ginebra would end up at either No. 3 or No. 4 in Group B at the end of the eliminations.
Their quarterfinal opponent will depend on the result of Wednesday’s game between NLEX and San Miguel.
Ginebra at No. 3
If Ginebra wins and Phoenix Super LPG loses in their final game, both teams will be tied at 5-5.
The Gin Kings will then be the No. 3 seed in Group B because of a +14 point differential in the two games that they played each other during the eliminations. Ginebra lost to Phoenix, 81-78, in their opening game.
At No. 3, Ginebra faces a quarterfinal showdown with San Miguel if the Beermen lose to NLEX on Wednesday or win by 13 points or less, putting the Beermen at No. 2.
Ginebra faces NLEX as the No. 3 seed if NLEX loses to San Miguel by 14 points or more, sending the Road Warriors down to No. 2.
Ginebra at No. 4
Ginebra would land at No. 4 if it loses to Blackwater by 24 points or less, with the possible quarterfinal opponent still either NLEX or San Miguel.
NLEX will be at No. 1 if it wins against SMB on Wednesday. SMB will be the No. 1 seed if it wins over NLEX by 14 points or more.
Ginebra will have a clear picture on their possible quarterfinal opponent after Wednesday’s playdate that also sees Rain or Shine facing Magnolia.
