CAGE legend Ramon Fernandez has launched a fund-raising campaign in response to a call for help from Samboy Lim's family over the mounting hospital bills of the former PBA star who collapsed while playing an exhibition game and remains in coma in a hospital.
Fernandez, a teammate of Lim at San Miguel from 1988 to 1994, said the cage great's hospital bills are piling up and they thought it best to open a bank account so fans and individuals who mean to help can know where to direct their donations.
The four-time MVP said he has seen the outpouring of prayers and support for Lim on social media sites and has been approached by people asking how they can pitch in.
“Actually, fans here and abroad, people who I have not personally met but have come to know through social media have been asking me where they can donate,” said Fernandez in an interview on Wednesday.
"They suggested this idea and it’s actually a brilliant one. So we hope that with this, we can raise funds to help Samboy’s family keep up with the mounting bills."
Lim, 52, remained in a comatose state at the Medical City hospital where he has been confined since November 28.
In the six years he spent with Lim at San Miguel, Fernandez said he came to know Lim better and described the player who thrilled the country with his aerial artistry as someone with no mean bone in his body.
“He was someone who was well-liked, very jolly and isang tao na hindi mo talaga makikitaan sa gulo,” said Fernandez, adding Lim’s former teammates are also doing what they can to help the fallen cager.
Those who want to donate can direct their funds to this account: BDO Current Account 7018006040 under the name Darlene Berberabe in trust for (ITF) Jamie Christine B. Lim, Samboy's daughter.
