PBA great Samboy Lim remains in a 'guarded state' at the ICU of the Medical City hospital but has shown encouraging signs that give family and close friends hope of a recovery.

Lim's family was set to issue a statement on Tuesday night thanking fans for the overwhelming show of support while seeking more prayers for the former San Miguel Beer star, who collapsed apparently because of a cardiac arrest in a Legends game at the Ynares Arena in Pasig City.

The 52-year-old Lim remains heavily sedated, but friends said tests ran by doctors showed the well-loved former Letran Knight is not brain dead as earlier feared while his major organs are functioning normally.

His blood pressure is also normal, friends said.

For the first time, Lim, named one of the '25 Greatest Players' of the PBA after a 10-year career with San Miguel, is also reacting to stimulation, sources said.

In fact, his family said the former national player pressed the hand of sister Maria Wuckland when he first heard her voice. The Pennsylvania-based Wuckland arrived on Tuesday.

However, doctors remained guarded since they need to run more tests to determine the full extend of the damage to Lim's brain as a result of the cardiac arrest.
