ARE 'short shorts' back in vogue?
Remember the short and tight shorts basketball players used to wear back in the day? The ones former Ginebra playing-coach Robert Jaworski famously stuck to late in his legendary PBA playing career in the 90s when below-the-knee shorts were already the fad?
Or those old playing shorts which your dads have managed to keep in the family baul?
It appears the look is coming back when you see Star Hotshots rookie Jio Jalalon wearing shorts considerably shorter than most players - shorts cut well above the knee.
From the current roster of active PBA players, we've also noticed San Miguel freshman Arnold Van Opstal wearing shorts cut above the knee.
Intrigued, we asked Jalalon about it and found out it's nothing more than a personal preference in his ways to rock basketball jersey fashion.
“Yun lang talaga 'yung nakasanayan ko,” Jalalon said at the end of Star practice. “Sa paglalaro, iba-iba naman tayo eh. Yung mga Fil-Am, mahahaba (yung shorts), ako 'yun na talaga, mababa talaga 'yung shorts ko.”

The Star rookie said the 'short shorts' does have its advantages, especially when he plays defense.
“Para din nakakadepensa ako, hindi sagabal sa tuhod,” he said.
More than trying to revive a fashion trend from the old days, Jalalon said he was merely going for comfort and familiarity.
“Wala naman akong balak,” the former Arellano star said with a smile. “Ano ko lang yun sa sarili ko na maikli lang talaga yung shorts ko. Komportable lang.”
But who knows? That Jio look may soon catch on.
