SAN Miguel management isn't about to let players involved in a fracas during team practice on Sunday get away scot-free.
According to insiders, SMB officials are in the process of piecing together the details of the punching incident involving import Dezmine Wells, locals Arwind Santos and Ronald Tubid, along with Fil-Am Kelly Nabong.
Sanctions are likely to be meted on the players involved once the investigation is concluded, the source added.
PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said he’s awaiting whatever measures the ballclub would make before taking action.
“Hinihintay lang namin kung anong hakbang ng San Miguel kasi ayaw din naman naming pag na-sanction sila, isa-sanction pa rin namin sila,” said the league top honcho on Tuesday.
In the event SMB penalizes the players, Marcial said he will determine if the punishment is enough before taking further steps.
“Kakausapin ko pa rin sila kahit na sa tingin ko sapat na yung ginawa ng koponan sa kanila,” he said.
The scuffle occurred during practice at the Upper Deck facility in Ortigas, three days before the grand slam-seeking franchise faces TnT Katropa in the final playdate of the Governors Cup where a Top 4 finish and a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals will be at stake.
During a sequence in practice, Wells, according to sources, went down following a hard pick by Santos. The import took offense and confronted the former league MVP, sparking the commotion.

In the heat of the moment, Tubid, a close friend of Santos, came over and punched Wells. The move didn’t sit well for Nabong, who, in turn, knocked down Tubid with a punch.
Cooler heads then separated the parties to prevent the situation from escalating further.
The melee added to the uncertainty surrounding Wells, the prolific import who has yet to return to action since suffering an ankle injury in the Beermen's game against Meralco last October 27.
The flamboyant former NBA player has stayed around even after the Beermen brought in a replacement in John Holland, had a quiet game of 10 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists in a 91-85 loss to Rain or Shine in his league debut in Cebu.
But the game was played a day after Holland arrived from the U.S., denying him the benefit of sufficient practice with the Beermen.
At posting time, the PBA Commissioner's Office had not announced any move by SMB to reactivate Wells. Text messages sent by SPIN.ph to San Miguel team manager Gee Abanilla haven't been answered.
