THE PBA Commissioner’s Office has approved Converge’s acquisition of Calvin Abueva on Tuesday.

It didn’t took long for the league to approve the surprising trade that gives Converge a marquee name to join the likes of rookie sensation Juan Gomez de Liano and the FiberXers’ twin towers of Justine Baltazar and Justine Arana.
Abueva is officially set to reunite with Converge coach and Pampanga vice-governor Dennis ‘Delta’ Pineda, who took care of him early in a rags-to-riches story in Philippine basketball beginning with his stint with San Sebastian in the NCAA.

The 37-year-old Abueva’s reunion with Pineda comes at the twilight of his career, but ‘The Beast’ is enjoying a renaissance after he became a candidate for Best Player of the Conference in the 50th Season Philippine Cup.
He lost to June Mar Fajardo and Gomez de Liano, who now becomes his teammate at Converge.
The league's quick imprematur is surprising, especially since the deal got a lot of negative reactions after it was first reported, from netizens who decried that Converge got way too much value for three bench players.
