CHICAGO - Just three days before their PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup campaign begins, the Magnolia Hotshots are changing imports.
Per multiple sources, Magnolia has given Terrell Brown-Soares the pink slip and that a new import is expected to join Wednesday morning’s practice.

It is unclear if Brown-Soares has left the Philippines but a league insider told me “they packed his stuff and took it to him yesterday.”
From my understanding, Brown-Soares didn’t fit Magnolia’s plans because he would rather play outside and shoot 3s instead of being an inside banger, rebounder and defender.

PBA Imports sign contracts that typically carry only a one-month guarantee.
Brown-Soares arrived on the weekend of February 8 and his alleged dismissal more or less covers the 30-day timeline before another month’s pay cycle kicks in.
Per a SPIN.ph report by Gerry Ramos, Magnolia had eyes on Jonathan Williams but Phoenix’s 2024 Commissioner’s Cup Best Import was unavailable.
Apparently, the Plan B will now have to give way to Plan C.
Undeafted in the NBA in 2022, the 6-foot-10 power forward played for the University of San Diego where he averaged 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds a game.
GOOD BUT NOT WOW.
After a couple of G League stints, the 27-year old from Providence, Rhode Island has since played in the Czech Republic, Mexico and Romania.
But while suiting up for Miastro Szkla Krosno in the 2025-26 PLK season, Brown-Soares didn’t exactly light the Polish league on fire with an average of 9.2 points and 6.9 rebounds an outing.
Changing imports is nothing new at Magnolia. It is in fact, a well-practiced exercise, so to speak.
In the 2024 Governor’s Cup the team infamously went through four imports in a conference of discontent —- Glenn Robinson III, Shabazz Muhammad, Rayvonte Rice and Jabari Bird.
Bringing in a replacement import is not always a bad thing. Ginebra had one in the 2016 Governors’ Cup.
