MAGNOLIA Chicken Timplados reclaimed its winning form on Wednesday, outclassing Terrafirma, 104-91, on Wednesday in the PBA 48th Season Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Hotshots bounced back in a big way after their first defeat of the season at the hands of Rain or Shine last Saturday, getting an eighth win, which, as seen in past conferences, has been enough to secure a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
Magnolia off to a flyer
Magnolia rode a good start that saw it end the first quarter with a 29-16 advantage, and finished the contest without conceding the lead. The Hotshots even led by as many as 31 points at one point.
Terrafirma continued to slip as it fell to 2-6, extending its losing skid to five games.
“Alam naman namin na darating, hindi namin alam kung kailan,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero about losing their first game in the conference. “Good thing with this game, I thank the Lord for the positivity na binibigay Niya sa amin. At least, ‘yung game namin, ‘yung bounce back game namin, nawala na ‘yung [talo] namin sa Cagayan.”
Tyler Bey had 25 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists, while Ian Sangalang dropped 18 points and nine rebounds in his finest game of the season for the Hotshots.
Juami Tiongson finished with 17 points and five rebounds, while Gelo Alolino had 13 points in the Terrafirma defeat.
