NLEX star Kevin Alas and former Meralco import Suleiman Braimoh have one thing in common these days.

For the past two months now, Alas and Braimoh have been going to the same clinic in Mandaluyong City as they continue to rehabilitate their respective injuries suffered during the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

“Classmates kami sa rehab,” said Alas as he watched the Road Warriors during their debut game against NorthPort Batang Pier in the Philippine Cup.

Both players religiously attend their respective rehab sessions that last at least three to four hours, Mondays to Fridays.

Alas went down with an ACL injury last November, while Braimoh followed suit a few weeks later with a torn Achilles.

Braimoh ironically, was playing against the Road Warriors in the time he tore his Achilles.

Incidentally, the two went under the knife one day apart, with renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. George Canlas performing both procedures.

“December 4 ako (naoperahan), siya (Braimoh) December 5,” Alas said.

Braimoh stays put

That’s the reason why the 34-year-old Braimoh, a Nigerian-American, remains in the country and would regularly watch the Bolts in action during game days.

“Ang pagkakaintindi ko tatapusin niya yung rehab niya dito, and then sa US niya na tatapusin. Yun ang dinig ko,” said Alas, a key member of the Gilas Pilipinas team that bagged the historic gold in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China last year.

As for him, the road to recovery remains a long way.

“Ayoko magsabi ng timeline para walang pressure,” said Alas, who suffered his third career ACL injury.

At the earliest, he’ll comeback in the middle of PBA Season 49.

Incidentally, the clinic where he and Braimoh do their rehab is named Physiolab and co-owned by volleyball stars Bea de Leon and Denden Lazaro.
