BOCAUE, Bulacan – June Mar Fajardo once again made history, receiving his fifth straight PBA Most Valuable Player award during the Leo Awards on Sunday at the Philippine Arena.
Fajardo surpassed Purefoods star Alvin Patrimonio and Mon Fernandez with the most number of MVP trophies.
It is also the PBA record for most number of MVPs won in consecutive years.
The San Miguel center averaged 20.6 points, 12.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in Season 43.
Fajardo had a total of 2,436 points, beating Stanley Pringle of NorthPort, who had 2,041 points.
The San Miguel center won in the media votes with 777, and the PBA votes with 300, while accumulating 1,032 statistical points and 327 player votes.
Pringle topped the statistical points with 1,107 and player votes with 395, and got 389 media votes and 150 PBA votes.
Pringle, Paul Lee of Magnolia, Japeth Aguilar of Ginebra and Marcio Lassiter of San Miguel joined Fajardo in the first Mythical Team.
Scottie Thompson of Barangay Ginebra, Mark Barroca of Magnolia, Arwind Santos of San Miguel, Poy Erram of Blackwater and Matthew Wright of Phoenix were named to the second Mythical Team.
Jason Perkins of Phoenix Pulse beat former La Salle teammate Jeron Teng of Alaska for the Rookie of the Year award, Gabe Norwood of Rain or Shine bagged the Sportsmanship Award and Thompson was named Most Improved Player.
Norwood, Fajardo, Rafi Reavis of Magnolia, Rome Dela Rosa of Magnolia and Chris Ross of San Miguel were named to the All-Defensive Team.
