FORMER Barako Bull guard Jeric Fortuna has been officially reunited with San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria on Tuesday after his one-on-one trade with veteran Paolo Hubalde was approved by the PBA Commissioner’s Office.
San Miguel governor Robert Non confirmed the the approval of the deal which brought together Fortuna with Austria, his coach with the San Miguel Beer side that took the Asean Basketball League (ABL) championship in 2013.
“Yes (Fortuna’s with San Miguel Beer already), it was the coach’s decision,” Non told Spin.ph on Wednesday.
Spin.ph broke the news about the trade on Monday. It was approved by the PBA Commissioner's Office on Tuesday.
Although the 5-8 guard out of University of Santo Tomas is no stranger to Austria, Non said Fortuna still needs to blend with the rest of the team.
“Yung chemistry kasi, it doesn’t just boil down to one or two players with a coach, because it has to be the chemistry of the entire team,” he said. “Jeric should also jell with the other players and our players should accommodate him, too."
The 22-year-old Fortuna, selected 14th overall by Barako Bull in last year's PBA rookie draft, is coming off an impressive rookie season despite playing in limited minutes behind Denok Miranda.
Before the trade, Fortuna averaged 7.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists in the Energy’s first four games this season under Koy Banal.
On the other hand, Hubalde is set to make his debut for Barako Bull in a game against Ginebra on Wednesday.
