SUDDENLY, guard Jayson David has been thrust into the limelight after the decision of Barangay Ginebra to activate him and relagate veteran LA Tenorio to its unrestricted free agents (with rights to salary) to list.
Unless one is a diehard Ginebra follower, David is hardly known.
The 6-foot-3 David is now in his third season with the franchise, who selected him No. 20 overall in the second round of the 2022 draft (Season 47).

He was actually part of the team’s championship roster during the 2023-24 Commissioner’s Cup when the Kings beat guest team Bay Area Dragons in seven games.
A native of Pampanga, the 28-year-old spent two seasons with San Sebastian where he played alongside RK Ilagan, Allyn Bulanadi, and Michael Calisaan for coach Edgar Macaraya, before transferring to Lyceum and play for coach Topex Robinson in the company of twins Jayvee and Jaycee Marcelino.

David also played for the Pampanga Delta that won back-to-back championships in the NBL.
After his stint with his home province, David took his act to the PBA 3x3 with Ginebra where he was recruited by coach Kirk Collier, who also serves as strength and conditioning coach of the Kings.

David was with Encho Serrano and Jollo Go among the early players of the Ginebra 3x3 team prior to the arrival of Kim Aurin, Ralph Cu, Ralph Salcedo, and Donald Gumaru.
It was during his stint in the halfcourt game that Collier saw a potential in David, leading him to recommend the player to coach Tim Cone.
However, opportunities came too few and far between for David at Ginebra.
He played limited minutes in 36 games in his first two seasons with the Gin Kings, averaging 0.9 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.3 assits at 3.5 minutes her game. He has spent the current season mostly on the Ginebra reserve list.
