PBA FANS are generally excited about the coming PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup playoffs after the quarterfinal brackets were known on Friday.
The PBA playoffs will see defending champion TNT, Barangay Ginebra, San Miguel, and Magnolia in the same half of the bracket, with the four squads battling for one spot in the championship.
READ Ginebra, TNT, Magnolia, SMB end up in same quarterfinal bracket
TNT, Barangay Ginebra, and San Miguel represent the champion squads over the last two seasons. The four teams, including Magnolia, are also the champion teams in 22 of the last 23 conferences.
Rain or Shine, NLEX, Converge, and Phoenix Super LPG, meanwhile, are in the other half of the bracket, with one of them making a trip to the finals for sure.
From the four, only NLEX belongs to the two biggest and most successful blocs in the PBA.
Fans understantable excited
Only the Elasto Painters have championship experience among the four, having won two PBA titles in the 2012 Governors’ Cup and the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup.
That 2016 Commissioner's Cup Finals, where Rain or Shine beat Alaska Milk, also marks the last time a PBA independent team won a PBA championship or reached a championship series.

On the other hand, foreign guest squad Bay Area Dragons own the distinction as the last team that do not belong to either the MVP or San Miguel Corp, blocs to make it to the PBA Finals.
No wonder then that a look on social media and on the comment section of SPIN.ph’s social media accounts show fans are looking forward to the playoffs due to the chance of an independent team reaching the finals, and the four powerhouse teams from the San Miguel and MVP group bunched together to fight for one finals berth.

Some fans are also looking forward to the Rain or Shine vs. Converge quarterfinal showdown.
