ANTIPOLO – Barangay Ginebra faces San Miguel, while TNT battles Magnolia in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup quarterfinals as the playoff pairings were finalized at the end of Friday's double-header.
NLEX goes up against Phoenix Super LPG, and Rain or Shine takes on Converge in the other quarterfinal pairings.
Interestingly, Ginebra, San Miguel, TNT, and Magnolia found themselves bunched together in one side of the bracket, meaning the champion teams of the 49th and 50th seasons will battle for one slot in the finals.
NLEX, Phoenix Super LPG, Rain or Shine, and Converge, on the other hand, are in the other playoff bracket. Of the four teams, Rain or Shine is the only one with a PBA championship.
The Elasto Painters are also the only team in that side of the draw that has made the finals.
Ginebra booked the last quarterfinal berth on Friday after a 101-96 win over Blackwater, but finished with the No. 3 seed on a 5-5 win-loss record, winning the tiebreak over Phoenix Super LPG.
That set up a showdown with San Miguel, the No. 2 seed team in Group A.
Ginebra’s win also set up a quarterfinal match-up between Group B No. 4 Phoenix Super LPG against Group A No. 1 NLEX.
Earlier in the day, Rain or Shine defeated Phoenix Super LPG, 133-103, to clinch the No. 2 seed in Group B - and a match-up against Group A No. 3 Converge.
Magnolia had already clinched the No. 1 seed in Group B and a match-up against Group B No. 4 TNT after beating Rain or Shine, 107-103, last Wednesday.
