FOR Carlo Paalam, revenge is a dish best served cold.
The Olympic silver medalist settled a score against Shukur Ovezov of Turkmenistan with a dominant win in the men’s 57 kg class of the Boxing 2nd World Qualification Tournament late Tuesday night at the Indoor Arena Huamark in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Filipino fighter showed exactly what he can do when fully fit, scoring a 5-0 win over his opponent as all judges scored their bout 30-27 in favor of Paalam.
Two down, three wins to go
The victory had the 25-year-old native of Bukidnon advancing to the Round-of-16 as he further pushed his bid of making it back to the Olympics.
Significantly, it also avenged his RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) loss to the same Turkmenistan fighter during the 1st World Qualification Tournament held two months ago in Italy.
Paalam settles an old score
Paalam quit in his first meeting against Ovezov with 52 seconds remaining in the second round as he had to endure the pain of a shoulder injury which he suffered in his previous bout when he was wrestled to the canvas by Mexican Andrey Bonilla.
Now he faces Artur Bazeyan of Armenia next on May 30, needing to win his last three bouts to earn a berth in the Paris Olympics.
Paalam along with Hergie Bacyadan are the two remaining Filipino boxers still in strong contention of making it to the Olympiad.
