COACH Johnedel Cardel is looking forward to doing better now that Terrafirma's losing streak has ended.

The Dyip stopped the skid at 25, overcoming NLEX in overtime on Friday in the Commissioner's Cup. The winless run that started in February, a tough period that Cardel blames partly on injuries.

See Prosper says Terrafirma can be competitive if not for constant changes

Terrafirma last won 109-103 against Blackwater in last season’s Governors’ Cup.

Cardel noted that Terrafirma, which went winless in the Philippine Cup, suffered numerous injuries including serious ones sustained by Ed Daquiaog, Isaac Go, and Alex Cabagnot.

Cabagnot tore his Achilles heel last December. Daquioag suffered a leg fracture in July, a month after Go sustained an ACL tear.

“Obviously like what happened to us, may injuries na nangyari sa amin with Isaac Go and Ed Daquioag. Talagang nakasakit sa amin ‘yun. We are doing good sa offseason pero nangyari sa amin ‘yun. After that, dere-derecho pa rin ‘yung talo namin,” said Cardel.

Cardel said he tried to maintain a positive atmosphere within the team, with the losing streak not discussed during games.

“Hindi ko na lang iniisip. Hindi ko na sinasabi sa team na everytime going to the game, it’s the first game. It’s an important game. Kasi masyadong mabigat kapag sinabi ko na 25 losses, kailangan manalo tayo. Masyadong mabigat. When we enter the game, whether it’s Araneta, Ynares, whatever gym, we go there, that’s our first game, we have to win,” said Cardel.

Terrafirma, which actually had a fine performance against NorthPort in its previous match-up before the Dyip fell, 91-85, now hopes to build on the win over NLEX with two games remaining in the conference - against San Miguel and Phoenix.

“We have to continue what we did with NorthPort,” said Cardel.
