NORMAN Black envisions a potent backcourt for Meralco in its PBA Governors Cup campaign following the acquisition of Mike Tolomia in a trade with Rain or Shine on Monday.
The arrival of Tolomia, acquired in a trade for fellow Gilas cadet Ed Daquioag, gives the Bolts a stable rotation at the point guard position where the much-improved Baser Amer serves as the team’s main man.
“We thought the trade for Tolomia would help us strengthen our point guard position moving forward,” said Black of the trade.
Anjo Caram serves as Meralco’s third option at the one spot.

Black added the acquisition of Garvo Lanete in a four-team trade involving NLEX, Globalport, TnT Katropa, and Meralco, led to a surplus of personnel at the shooting guard position, making Daquioag dispensable.
“We were pretty loaded at the two guard position with (Chris) Newsome, Lanete, and Ed,” he pointed out.
An Amer-Tolomia backcourt tandem couldn’t have come at a better time for the Bolts now that they remain on top of the standings in the season-ending meet with a 4-0 record.
Tolomia plays his first game for Meralco this Sunday when it stakes its unbeaten mark and the solo lead against NLEX at the Mall of Asia Arena.
