BARANGAY Ginebra’s dramatic win on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena actually ended a four-game winless spell against Magnolia.

Ginebra has not won against Magnolia since October 20, 2019 when the Gin Kings defeated the Hotshots, 105-83, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Since then, the Hotshots have won over the Gin Kings during the pandemic where the league staged the 2020 Philippine Cup in the Clark bubble, the 2021 Philippine Cup, and the 2021 Governors' Cup which was played during Christmas.

The skid extended to the 2022 Philippine Cup last June 19 where Magnolia also won, 89-84, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“It’s been a while,” said Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone.

Exactly three years and three days later, the Gins finally won in typical NSD fashion as they overcame a 15-point deficit to take a 103-97 victory over the Hotshots.

Cone revealed the skid was in their minds.

“When I left San Mig Coffee and I went to Ginebra, I think we beat them nine or 10 straight times. We’ve really felt like we have their number. And then they just completely turned the table on us. And they’ve beaten us ever since. It’s been really frustraing,” said Cone.

“We’ve talked about it. We talked about it yesterday in our pregame prep,” he added.

The Kings came back from a 58-43 deficit to win by six points, 103-97, behind the efforts of Justin Brownlee, Jamie Malonzo, and Scottie Thompson.

“It was typical ‘never say die’ Ginebra game from the 1990s in my opinion. I remember those. I remember being on the other side of those things when I was losing to those things. It was great to be on this side,” said Cone.
