Ginebra superstar Scottie Thompson, one of the finest products of the Perpetual basketball program, had a hand in bringing in the support of the SMC group and will take a managerial role in the team.
Last year, he served as an assistant to team manager Anton Tamayo and helped out in the coaching chores.
A source bared that it was San Miguel sports director Alfrancis Chua who offered the support to Perpetual as a favor to alumnus Thompson, who has played an integral role in the last seven PBA championships of Ginebra.
Another person close to the deal bared that Chua’s initiative to help the Altas will go a long way in retaining Thompson at Ginebra amid talk that the latter is getting offers from teams in the Japan B.League and Taiwan pro league.

The Padada, Davao del Sur native's contract will be up for renewal next year.
Perpetual, which joined the NCAA is 1984, has yet to win a championship. Will San Miguel’s imminent entry change that?
