TWO days before Barangay Ginebra's series opener against Northport, Scottie Thompson was deeply involved in the Perpetual Altas' first practice session under Olsen Racela.
Racela, one of the Gin Kings' coaching deputies, took over the reins as the Altas' new men's basketball head coach for the NCAA's centennial season.

Meanwhile, the former NCAA MVP whose jersey hangs in Perpetual's rafters, had his first order of business with his alma mater as assistant team manager alongside Racela.
Having Thompson onboard despite their busy joint schedules in the PBA is a luxury which Racela takes pride in.

"Perpetual pride Scottie Thompson, of course, he was there to help as an alumni player and share his past experience as a national team, there's a lot to share with those kids," said Racela.
The Altas aim for a fresh leadership approach, led by figures such as Racela and Thompson, as their initial move to overcome the Final Four obstacle. Despite a commendable 10-8 win-loss record in NCAA Season 99, the Altas narrowly missed advancing to the Final Four.
But before the college hoops season tips off, the Ginebra pair looks to complete a deep run in the postseason of the PBA Commissioner's Cup — starting on Friday as they hold a twice-to-beat advantage over the Batang Pier in the quarterfinals.
