“… Could this be the last [season]? Absolutely. It’s tough to decide.”
Kobe Bryant said the decision to play on or call it quits could be made at the end of the new campaign as questions about retirement persist ahead of the NBA season.
The Lakers superstar once more talked about playing through pain in an interview with Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears, stressing that he still enjoys the game although he knows he is approaching the end of the basketball journey.
“I love playing. I enjoy it. It’s weird. You go from as a kid loving the game, thinking you will be able to play forever to being where I am now and understanding there is some finality to it.”
Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak earlier said next season could be the last for Bryant, but the five-time NBA champion says it’s still too early to make the call.
“I think that decision needs to be made after the season. It’s hard to make a decision like that before the season.”
