WHY would you want to be anywhere else than the team that has given you the biggest break in your NBA career?

Jordan Clarkson shot down rumors that he declined to sign a contract extension by the Utah Jazz as he underlined his commitment to the Western Conference playoff aspirants.

“I’ve really had no communication in terms of extension from my side or my team that I know of,” the Filipino-American combo guard said in a recent online media availability with Manila-based reporters.

“And if those talks are happening, sometime soon, I would love to be here in Utah, continue to play with my teammates further,” he added.

Anything, though, can still happen for Clarkson, who is on the third year of a four-year extension he signed with the Jazz in 2020.

“If the summer comes and it’s nothing else or it’s not an agreement or anything comes through, we just have to wait and see,” the 30-year-old playmaker said. "I can’t tell that far in the future, but in terms of right now, I don’t think there’s really been much talking.”

    He’s embracing the present.

After thriving as a spark off the bench throughout his career, the 2021 NBA Sixth Man of the Year has turned it up a notch in his first season as a Jazz starter, averaging career-highs in points (21.1), assists (4.4), rebounds (4.2), and minutes (32.6) in 45 games so far.

Those numbers are more than enough to make a case for him to be the first-ever Filipino NBA All-Star.

“I think I’ve been playing at an All-Star caliber,” the Gilas Pilipinas star said. “I know we got to win more games before the All-Star break to kind of push us up to the top of the West, but I think I’ve been playing at a high level.”

“I know in the West, they got a lot of talented guards, but I feel like I can represent Utah, the Philippines at the All-Star game if it happens. I definitely would be grateful.”

But team glory is more important for Clarkson as he continues to lead the Jazz, who are currently in 10th spot in the West at 22-24, in their playoff push.

“But right now, not concentrating too much on that (All-Star game). I’m concentrating on getting us wins and trying to keep propelling this team towards the top of the West,” he said.

Fans can vote for Jordan Clarkson in the All-Star game by registering their NBA ID and voting on the NBA App until January 22, 12:59 p.m., Philippine time.
