Karl Benedict Wood stepped up in a big way for the Philippine U20 team as it outlasted North America, 82-73, in the PSL Global Championships last Tuesday.
The Philippines, represented by National Finals champion Davao-NTB, saw their MVP John Eimrod Rodulfa struggle but Wood more than stepped up to the plate as he finished with 28 points – leading three other players in double-digits.
Peter Adabo added 13, Keith Marquez chipped in 12 while Rodulfa bucked an eight turnover night with 10 points.
Joining the Philippines and Canada as opening day winners in the U20 stages is Thailand’s Trail International School who ran roughshod over UK-Kampi Basketball, 106-72.
Jaspher Kurihara and Don Wayde Basadre each tallied 27 points apiece, with the former adding seven assists to spearhead Thailand’s explosive debut in the Pilipinas Super League’s flagship event.
Thailand sizzled with a 56 percent shooting clip, pouncing on its advantage inside where it produced 64 points, 26 more than its counterparts. The Fil-Thais also dominated the boards, 53-35.
