AS the appointment of LA Tenorio as Gilas Pilipinas Youth coach became official, another active player is said to be being eyed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to join him in the staff.
Sources told SPIN.ph that Gabe Norwood is being considered to be part of the staff of Tenorio, who is taking over the Gilas youth program following the announcement on Tuesday.

Like Tenorio, Norwood is still in the active roster of Rain or Shine in the PBA, but the George Mason University product has already taken the role of a playing assistant coach this season with the Elasto Painters.
And also like the Barangay Ginebra veteran, the 39-year-old Norwood has a vast experience with Gilas Pilipinas, most notably in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship and the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The SBP hinted in its announcement of Tenorio’s appointment that the 40-year-old Barangay Ginebra veteran already has persons in mind to be part of the youth program.

“He was open to the challenge immediately and he even had a short list of coaches that he wanted to work with,” said SBP president Al Panlilio in a statement.
That list, apparently, includes Norwood, according to a source. Norwood, a two-time PBA champion, is currently in his 16th year with Rain or Shine.
Tenorio’s appointment is part of Gilas Pilipinas coach Tim Cone’s desire for continuity within the national team program. Cone’s defensive philosophies is said to be part of what the Gilas coach wants to be implemented in the youth teams.
