EJ OBIENA is now putting together an international pole vault competition that could happen next month in the Philippines.
Obiena bared the competition is targeted to be held on September 20 at the Ayala Triangle Gardens, where he will be focusing his attention to iron out all the details at the end of his campaign in the Paris Olympics.
“As much as I would want to get involved in organizing a meet, it is still as second priority until two days ago,” Obiena said during an online press conference. “Now, I would want to be able to bring an international competition.”

“It is already registered and sanctioned by World Athletics. The idea is it’s going to happen in September 20. It’s going to be at the Ayala Triangle Gardens. Ayala is taking care of it,” said Obiena.
Plans to bring a pole vault competition started as far as two years ago with Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino offering Tagaytay City as one of the venues.
It appears Makati City will be the likely site of the event, which will give Filipinos a rare glimpse of an international pole vault event.
Obiena said the competition will be up to world standards. He didn’t reveal which pole vaulters will be competing, or whether he will also compete.
“We have a European consultalt to make sure that everything is up to standard. The stuff that we are using is the same as the surface here in Paris and Tokyo (Olympics). Definitely, I’m putting my attention now,” said Obiena.
“And hopefully, you guys will have a world-class competition in the Philippines,” said Obiena.
