IS three-time UAAP MVP Bella Belen a lock for Capital1’s first overall pick in the 2025 PVL Draft?

Not just yet.

Capital1 co-owner Milka Romero maintained a firm stance that there won’t be a consensus top pick for the Solar Spikers.

“I can’t say pa muna. Marami talagang mapagpipilian in this draft and it’s very exciting to watch kasi we’re spoiled for choice,” Romero said.

“Sana tuloy-tuloy this momentum for our franchise, as well, not just for the first pick but also in this whole new season in the PVL.”

With the second-best odds of landing the top pick at 30 percent, Romero shared how the team already drafted a shortlist of potential selections for whichever spot they’ll land among the first four picks.

“We were looking between iilang players that we want for that first draft pick. We still have a combine. We don’t want also to bring our hopes up,” the Capital1 co-owner said.

“We want to see everyone in the technical, statistical and performance point of view on who will be that first pick for Capital1.”

But is the departing National U captain on that list despite the possibility of her eventual withdrawal?

At least that’s for certain.

“Of course, nasa shortlist siya [Belen]. That’s what I can say, but what the team needs is more important and what we see in our long-term plan with the management, the coaches,” Romero said.

More than just a franchise player

Apart from the coveted top pick, every other selection that will follow remains of equal importance for the year-old squad.

Romero made it clear that the goal is not to find a franchise player but to find players that will lift their franchise up in the years to come.

“We’re looking at our next moves not just for one player but for our whole franchise as Capital1, how do we define ourselves in the professional league in many more years to come? This is a good turning point for us,” Romero said.

“We don’t want to think of the moment pero we want to think of next year and many more seasons to come and who will be there to build the foundation. We have a lot pa to build with our team so very interesting and exciting.”
