THE Ninoy Aquino Stadium and Rizal Memorial Stadium will be refurbished for martial arts and tennis in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, according to the Philippine Sports Commission.
Clark will be the main hub for the 11-nation meet, but other sports have been assigned to Manila venues.
“Magre-rehab kami for SEA Games. Ire-rehabilitate namin ‘yung Ninoy, track oval, and other areas kasi gagamitin ng martial arts and tennis ang Ninoy at Rizal Memorial kasi may mga ilang events sa Manila,” said PSC chairman William Ramirez.
Manila was the main hub for the country’s hosting of the SEA Games in 1981, 1991 and 2005 with the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex serving as the main stadium for most of the events.
Ramirez said preparations for the country’s hosting of the SEA Games are in full swing, with the organizing committee chaired by Foreign Affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano already holding office at the Bonifacio Global City and Taguig City.
The organizing committee will later be transfer to Clark.
