THE Filipinas were upended by South Korea, 3-0, on Thursday in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 in Gold Coast, Australia.

Coming on the heels of a 1-0 defeat to Australia last Sunday, the loss bumped the Filipinas out of the race for the top two spots in Group A. Their only chance at moving to the quarterfinals is if they end up as one of the two best third placers in the competition.
The Filipinas face Iran on March 8 in their final group stage game - and their last chance at qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
As of posting time, the Philippines has the biggest goal difference among the teams outside the top two in each of the three groups at -4.
“I’m obviously disappointed. As a group, we don't like to lose,” said Filipinas coach Mark Torcaso. “But the character of our players always shines and the character of our young players definitely come out and show the exuberance and excitement that we need, and that’s backed up by our experienced players.”

“It’s not the result that we wanted. We want to obviously be closer and closer to the best teams. It’s also a very good experience and learning for all our players, young and experienced. I'm disappointed that we didn't get the result we wanted, but we can't focus on that now,” said Torcaso.
The Filipinas had two shots on target including a header by Mallie Ramirez off a cross by Angela Beard but the ball was collected by Korea goalkeeper Kim Min Jung.
