THE No. 1 overall pick deserves nothing but the best.
Showing its full trust and confidence, Columbian Dyip locked top rookie CJ Perez to a lucrative maximum deal as it intends to build the franchise around the former NCAA MVP out of Lyceum.
The signing was done Thursday afternoon at the Columbian Dyip training facility in Azure in the presence of team governor Bobby Rosales.
Perez, 23, practiced with the team in the morning before putting his signature on the first of an expected series of fat contracts he will have in his pro career.
Management however, refused to divulge the number of years and other details of the deal, although top rookie picks are usually guaranteed two- to three-year deals.
Under such terms, rookie players receive P150,000 monthly in his rookie season before his salary escalates to P220,000 per month on his sophomore year and P350,000 per month on the third year.
Perez was quick to impress Rosales on draft day as he found the rookie player a very corteous person.
"This boy has character," said Rosales. "And his basketball talent speaks for itself."
