THERE'S BEEN A lot of controversy surrounding WWE's decision to setup the stage for a WrestleMania XL match between Roman Reigns and The Rock as fans were gutted to see Cody Rhodes shake Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's hand, leave the arena, while the Rock delivers a determined stare at Reigns.
Fans then assumed that Rhodes has given up on his conquest to secure the WWE Championship despite his quest for redemption after what happened in last year's WrestleMania, while The Rock would be the headliner to challenge Roman Reigns.
However, WWE eventually made their final decision. The WrestleMania XL event will be centered between The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns and the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes.
WWE Chief Content Officer, Paul "Triple H" Levesque, announced on his social media page.
"Decision made. Cody Rhodes gets the chance to finish his story when he challenges Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania XL," said the former WWE and World Heavyweight champ.
This was further supported in the WrestleMania XL Kickoff show. At the beginning of his segment, Reigns chose The Rock as his opponent, drawing boos from the crowd.
The Rock even showed up asking the crowd questions, on whether he'll end up defeating Roman Reigns and if their bout will be one of the biggest spectacles in wrestling, drawing more negative reactions.
The American Nightmare strikes
But suddenly, Cody Rhodes showed up to remind everyone about his Royal Rumble victory, giving him the right to choose his opponent.
Then came some personal discussions centered on their families. Both Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes came from distinguished wrestling families, adding to the storylines.
Reigns told Cody: "You're embarassing your entire family now, You're irrelevant just like your dad."
Eventually Cody responded talking about Roman and The Rock's ancestors becoming ashamed of the Tribal Chief, which led to The Rock slapping Rhodes.
With so much drama, the upcoming main event could end up as a work of art for wrestling fans.
Reigns and Rhodes last headlined last year's WrestleMania, which saw a controversial victory in favor of the Tribal Chief.
