FORMER professional wrestling champ Bret 'The Hitman' Hart bared he's facing a new battle, this time against a deadlier foe.
In an Instagram post on Monday (Tuesday, Manila time) that features the 58-year-old wrestler with his grandchildren, Hart publicly declared that he's fighting prostate cancer and will undergo surgery in the coming days.
"I've had a great lifelong dance and I'm a survivor of many hard battles," said the WWE Hall of Famer on his post. "I now face my toughest battle. With hesitation and fear, I openly declare myself in my fight against prostate cancer."
"I make a solemn vow to all of those that once believed in me, the dead and the living, that I will wage my fearsome fight against cancer with one shield and one sword carrying my determination and my fury for life, emboldened by all the love that's kept me going this long already," he added.
Hart has had quite a few health scares in the past but none more daunting than this. He retired in 1999 from professional wrestling, in a career that saw him win the world heavyweight championship five times in the WWF and twice in the WCW, due to a concussion. Then in 2002, Hart survived a stroke.
Yet Hart remains a fighter despite it all, even as he faces a life-long battle with cancer, as he hopes to inspire the world with his fighting heart.
"Most important of all, I hope can take the fight to prostate cancer. To be a leader in awareness and to set the example for men everywhere who find themselves in my very same shoes, that prostate cancer can be beaten," wrote 'The Hitman.'
