PH skaters shine in competitions in the United States

THE Philippine Skating Union (PHSU) recently hailed the performances of figure skaters Sofia Frank and Christopher Caluza, and speed skater Julian Macaraeg in separate competitions in the United States this weekend.

PH skaters shine

Frank captured a gold medal after she topped the Colorado figure skating competition with a score of 153.84 points in her first competition as a member of the Philippine senior women’s team.

Caluza, meanwhile, placed 10th in the men’s free skate of the 2021 Cranberry Cup International, scoring 167.90 points in the event won by 2019 world figure skating bronze medalist Vincent Zhou of the United States.

Caluza won a silver medal in the men's figure skating event of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

The Cranberry Cup International is part of the PHSU’s qualifier evaluation for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

    Macaraeg finished sixth in the 500-meter with a time of 42.632 seconds and the 1500-meter of the Desert Classic Short Track in Utah with a clocking of 2:28.290, a new Philippine record.
