HIDILYN Diaz has added the World Championships title to her illustrious resume, bagging the crown in the women 55kg division in Bogota, Colombia on Wednesday (Thursday Manila time).
Hidilyn Diaz rules World Championships
Diaz took the world crown with a total lift of 207 kilograms, taking all three gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total.
The reigning Olympic champion had a lift of 93 kilograms in the snatch to take her first gold in the worlds, before tallying 114 kilograms for another gold in the clean and jerk.
Diaz appeared unsatisfied with her performance in the clean and jerk, as she registered a no-lift in her attempts at 117 and 121, which could have been her best for the year.
Nevertheless, the 31-year-old Diaz finally has a world title in her career just a year after she made history by becoming the first gold medalist of the Philippines in the Olympics. She also won the Asian Games, Asian Championships, and the Southeast Asian Games over the course of her career.
The performance was also a good start to her bid to qualify in the 2024 Olympics as the Bogota competition is one of the required events that an athlete must compete in order to make it to Paris.
