HIDILYN Diaz captured the gold medal in the 2020 Eleiko Email International Lifters Tournament.
Diaz lifted 216 kilograms, 95 in the snatch and 121 in the clean and jerk, to claim the women’s 59kg division of the online competition that lured entries from 63 countries.
Fatima Yakabu of Australia placed second with 189 followed by Johanni Taljaard of South Africa with a 188 in the tournament organized by the Oceania Weightlifting Federation.
Diaz is currently in Kuala Lumpur after she got stranded during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the 2016 Rio De Janiero silver medalist is still training alongside his team.
Officially, Diaz has yet to claim a place in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but the Zamboanga native is currently fourth in the International Weightlifting Federation world rankings in the women’s 55kg division.
