HIDILYN Diaz will be returning to Malaysia next month to begin her intense training for the World Championship set in November in Peru.

Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) president Monico Puentevella said Diaz will be accompanied by her coach Julius Naranjo as they resume their training, this time for the world championship.

“She is going back to Malaysia, September 20, may balak na silang bumalik sa Malaysia para talagang training for the World Championship in November in Peru. Gusto nilang mag-medalya doon,” said Puentevella during Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum.

The 30-year-old Diaz trained in Malaysia for nearly two years in her preparation for the Olympics. It bore fruit as she won for the Philippines its first gold medal after a 97-year wait, copping the women’s 55 kilogram category in Tokyo.
