HIDILYN Diaz and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William Ramirez met on Thursday to iron things out following a controversial post on social media by the bemedalled weightlifter a few days ago.
Diaz was accompanied by AFP Special Services chief Col. Taharudin Ampatuan in the meeting with Ramirez, where they discussed issues that prompted Diaz to solicit help from private sponsors for her training.
Ramirez said the PSC assured Diaz that it will continue to support her bid for a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, while also approving two more requests for assistance for her training in China.
“The government will continue to support her,” Ramirez said. “We have pledged our support before and we will continue to do so because we are focused on that Olympic gold as much as Hidilyn is.”
Diaz aired her grievance on social media that she is in search of a private sponsor as she is having difficulties with her preparation for the 2020 Olympics.
“Is it okay to ask sponsorship sa mga private companies towards Tokyo 2020?” Diaz asked. “Hirap na hirap na ako. I need financial support.”
Ramirez said another round of meeting will be held between him and Diaz to discuss other issues in relation to her preparation for the Olympics.
