RIO DE JANEIRO — Hidilyn Diaz thought this year’s Olympics would be her last. But after her silver medal finish here, Diaz hinted that her Olympic retirement plans could be on hold.
“Hindi ko alam. Magre-retire na ako pero hindi ko pa alam (kung itutuloy ko),” said the 25-year-old Diaz.
One thing for sure so far is that Diaz plans to go back to school and take up a course that is related to sports.
“Basta maga-aral ako. About sports or sports science,” said Diaz.
Diaz isn't looking too far ahead yet, specifically for another attempt to qualify for the 2020 Olympics, as she'd rather savor the silver-medal victory she just accomplished in her third try.
“Hindi ko pa masabi kung kaya ko pa lahat ng sakripisyo. Parang gusto ko mag-bakasyon,” said Diaz.
Diaz, however, said she is open to any opportunity, including a crack at show business like fellow Olympic silver medalist Mansueto 'Onyok' Velasco after his heroics in the 1996 Olympics.
“Hindi ko alam. Hindi naman ako magaling na artista,” said Diaz, laughing after SPIN.ph asked her of her showbiz plans.
“Siguro grab lang, pero hindi ko alam,” she added.
While she admits an acting career is far beyond her wildest dream, Diaz bared that she's had dreams of having his picture in a billboard in a major thoroughdare someday.
It's something within reach now after her Olympic triumph.
“Alam mo ‘yung pangarap na magka-billboard sa SLEX, sabi ko, ‘Balang araw, magkakaroon din ako niyan,’” she said with a smile.
